I AM NEITHER ON THE EARTH NOR IN THE SKY

Anna Laudel Gallery will host Turkish artist Ramazan Can’s new solo exhibition, a compilation of the works created by the artist over the past seven years, using different materials. As a continuation of Can’s previous exhibition, Once Upon a Time, which was also held at Anna Laudel Gallery in 2018, the exhibition depicts Can’s journey over the years in pursuit of his memories in the region where the nomads live. Identifying the act of settling with birds, the artist emphasized that the nomads were as free as birds as long as they were able to migrate. But this freedom was taken away from them as a result of modern settlement policies. Today, “there is no place for nomads neither on earth nor in the skies”. The artist exposes his memories in his works, which serve as a bridge between the past and the present and also refers to the acts of settling and migrating, terms used to describe nomads.

The exhibition is available at Anna Laudel Gallery from Tuesday to Sunday between 12pm and 7pm.
