SHORT-̞TERM EXTERNAL DEBT STOCK HITS USD 125.3BN
The short-term external debt stock increased by 9.7% to USD 125.3bn at the end of July, as compared to the end of 2020, according to the Central Bank. The banks’ short-term external debt stock rose by 2.6% to USD 58.9bn and the short-term debt of other sectors surged by 10.8% to USD 39.4bn in the same period. The short-term debt of the public sector, consisting primarily of public banks increased by 9.1% to USD 25.4bn, while the private sector’s short-term debt rose by 4.6% to USD 72.9bn at the end of July, compared to the end of 2020.
