TURKEVI CENTER LAUNCHED IN NEW YORK

The Turkevi Center (Turkish House) has been inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to the U.S. The building will serve as the headquarters of multiple Turkish diplomatic missions in New York, including the United Nations permanent mission of Turkey and the Turkish Consulate General, as well as a center of Turkish cultural activities. The 35-storey building, which is located on an area of around 20,000 square meters, has the views of the United Nations Headquarters and East River. The 171-meterhigh structure, which will have a 200-seat auditorium, meeting and exhibition halls, a 20-car parking lot and residences, will be a safe building to be able to give simultaneously many services. Bought from the American technology firm IBM in 1977 for USD 3m during the former President Suleyman Demirel and Foreign Minister Ihsan Salih Caglayangil’s term, the building served as Ankara’s permanent mission to the UN and consulate general until 2013, when extensive renovations began.
