NEWLINES BY DHL EXPRESS CEO MUSTAFA TONGUC

CUSTOMERS WILL COMPETE WITH CHINA WITH SAME DAY EXPORTS

“Export shipments used to be sent for delivery the next day if it was not a courier shipment. Now we have started micro exports on the same day as a trial with some of our customers. We will give this chance to many more of our customers. China could already get a shipment out in a day. Now we will be able to increase the competitiveness of our customers.”

WE CLEAR 60% OF ALL OUR SHIPMENTS IN ONE HOUR

“We can clear 60% of all our shipments from customs within one hour, and we do not charge our customers anything for this. The remaining 40% clearance is done by customs consultants, which we cannot do due to customs regulations. Our customers or their consultants clear 30% of shipments on the same day. If any customer or consultant clears duty-paid shipments late, our warehouse space gets full. We have a tariff, both in line with regulations and encourage our customers to clear their goods earlier.”

CONVENIENCE IN CUSTOMS INCREASES e-EXPORTS

“Returns are a very important issue for the e-exports. Today, you can receive 10 shipments from a platform and easily return nine of them. This is not easy for shipments from abroad. There are a lot of details like how it was sent, how it was received, whether there is VAT refund or not. Sometimes a refund takes a month. Whatever is done to facilitate customs clearance is in favor of our customers. The more you do it like the domestic market, the less the customer will be afraid to buy that product and e-exports increase that much.”

WE WAIT FOR 2022 TO FOLLOW TRENDS

“When you look at history, there was always a country issue, such as BRICS and Russia-Turkey-India. Now they are no longer mentioned at all. We decided not to even do the DHL Barometer this year. Right now countries are very reaction oriented. A country where everything goes well one day may decide to close the next day. That is why we can’t follow the trends this year. We will be able to see our future in 2022.”

“DHL Express closed 2020 with over EUR 60bn in revenue globally. We increased our profitability by 300%. DHL Express Turkey is approaching the top 6 countries in Europe both in terms of profitability and volume. The country ranks 25th in the world and we predict that we will be in the top 20 in two years.”

TURKEY WILL ENTER TOP 20 IN TWO YEARS HALF OF OUR SHIPMENTS WILL BE CARBON NEUTRAL BY 2025

“DHL’s target is zero emissions by 2050. By 2030, we will convert 60% of all our vehicles to electric. In fact, by 2025, we will make 50% of our shipments carbon neutral. We have now reached 10% and are accelerating quickly.”

PIONEERS WITH SYNTHETIC FUEL TO LOWER EMMISSIONS

“We have a service called carbon neutral. If you choose that shipment, there is a charge, which is only 10 kurus more per kilo than a regular shipment. We invest that extra fee in projects that will prevent carbon emissions in various parts of the world. In this way, the carbon emission created by that shipment is zeroed. What we ultimately want though is not to offset carbon emissions, but to create none. One of the biggest sources of these emissions in the logistics sector is airplanes. We are undertaking substantial projects to solve this problem. Synthetic fuel is one of them. It will not be easy, but we will be pioneers.”
