ALAATTIN AKTAS
The annual inflation rate dropped by 0.55 points to 16.59%, largely due to the base effect, while consumer prices rose by 0.89% in May, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 17.14% on an annual basis in April. The pandemic lockdown affected inflation figures in May. The Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) increased by 3.92% on a monthly and 38.3% on a yearly basis. Thus, the annual D -PPI saw the highest level in the last 30 months. The difference between the CPI and D -PPI reached 21.1 points on annual basis in May in line with the increase in foreign exchange rates and input costs. The reflection of producer
prices on consumer prices is persisting due to the weakness in retail sales.
